Fasting at 5 years old – How Miki made us proud…

Five days down the fasting month and don’t you just love every minute of it… The waking up at 4 in morning… the breaking of fast at 7.30 in the evening… the traffic jam… haha sounds harsh isn’t it? But just like every other Ramadhan for as long as I can remember, the month come with this feeling of happiness and excitement that will be missed a few months after it was over.

This year our Cimiki Chikadee, our little baby whose stories of him has been published in blog by the hundreds is learning how to fast! Isn’t it fantastic? And can you feel how fast time flies? Miki is 5 years old this Ramadhan, he is tall, handsome and smart and you will not believe his first fasting experience.

On the first sahur, Azman and I had rice with some spicy dish, so I gave Miki a bowl of Honey Stars and a cup of soy milk.  I figured he will have lunch once he came back from school at Mama Rose’s house.  But that afternoon when I came to fetch him and Rafa at around 5, I was totally surprised to hear that he was still fasting even when Mama Rose offered him food!  My good boy! I only expected him to fast half day but he managed to hang on till 5. That is just fantastic. I was so impressed I called his Dad at the office to share my pride and Azman also could not believe his manja son can be that strong.

Mama Rose said Miki was tough and he was not a bit tempted with the food the other kids were having.  I have to totally agree with her cause according to him, at school, all the children who was not fasting remained downstairs for meal time but those who were must go up and wait in the classroom. Only two kids, Miki and Hani Zarina, he said gone upstairs. It sure takes a lot of determination not to join the rest of the class, isn’t it?

He may be determined and patient but fasting for the first time sure took a toll on his tummy and body. By 6 oclock Miki was so tired he was just resting and lying down all the time. He did asked for water a couple of time, but I told him, after going this far, why don’t you try waiting for just another hour? I offered him to name one food or drinks that he wants to have for the breaking of fast and of course Miki wanted his favourite Chocolate Cookie Crumble Frappuccino from Starbucks. Hmmm… kids these days.. when I was a kid, I probably asked for buah melaka! Starbucks Frap… hmmppp…

And he managed to hang on till 7.30 and recited Doa Makan as soon as the Azan was on the air. Alhamdulillah…

He drank his favorite soy milk. And ate very little rice. He wanted to lay down and we excused him from the table. If you looked at him at that time, there’s no other words to described him but KESIAN GILERR!!! My poor boy was so tired. He only felt better about an hour later after some warm milk.

And that’s when he started jumping again. And he jumped and he rolled and he hopped like a bunny and roar like a gorilla… Yay! Miki was back! Miki survived fasting full day on his first attempt in his entire life at 5 years old! Congratulations!

As a reward later that night we drove to Starbucks in ioi Mall but unfortunately it was under renovation. I was disappointed for unable to fulfill my strong little boy’s wish. It was too late to go to another Starbuck, beside s it was a school nite. SO instead we headed to J-CO Donut, he had a triple choc donut and a tall Chocolate Frappe… Sugar and chocolate overdose but it was worth it.

The next day, I told Miki not to fast! Hahaha. I want his tummy to have a rest.

The third day was another magical day. He managed to fast another entire day but this time he has his energy fully charged and he was doing his kangaroo jump and gorilla roar at 6 oclock  like he just ate a cow five minutes ago. I even asked if he was really fasting or not and sure enough he did. Pelik kan? Mana dapat energy entah…

Over the weekend I told him not to fast again although he wanted to.. haha.. because we went out all day and he needs to walk, I don’t want to tire him too much..So to date Miki has successfully done 2 out 5 fasting days. I know if I insist he can easily go 30 days completely insyaAllah.

But it is ok my little Chikadee, you are still so tiny and this is just training. Don’t push your self too hard. That night on our way to Starbucks, we asked why didn’t he break his fast at Mama Rose’s house after school if he was tired? He answered “Takpe… Miki boleh tahan..” and later he said softly,”Sebenarnya Miki nak pahala….”

That almost put tears in my eyes.

We will not force you my son, but if you know it in your heart, what are your own responsibilities to Him. Insya Allah my son, you will be fine… you will be fine…

  1. tersentuhnya ayat miki. ‘nak pahala’

reading those post by mommies yang seronok tengok anak-anak berpuasa, somehow memberi impak -ve kat diri aku. sebabnya ryan masih belum mampu untuk berpuasa..

even 1/2hari pun tak… tapi aku cuba untuk rasa tak sedih, sebabnya tau kalau ryan tak makan, dia takkan ada tenaga. anak aku bukan kaki makan, kerempeng je.. tapi berat tulang huhu

pemilih makan anak aku ni. bubur nasi je boleh masuk. kalau nasi pun, just nak dengan sup. gagalkah aku sebagai seorang mak, sebab anak takmau makan? huhu

anyway… aku tetap berdoa, by 6YO nanti ryan mampu la berpuasa…

  2. emma… ko baru this year didik ryan puasa kan? relaks la… macam aku pun. kalau miki tak mampu pun aku ok… diorang masih kecik lah.. baru 5 years years. relask ok.tapi bab picky eater tu mungkin ko tegas sikit dengan ryan sebab sampai bila nak makan bubur kan? other than that ok jer… jgn risau sangat lah…

  3. Wahhh impressnyer..
