On 21st Jan 2010, we threw Miki his 3rd birthday party! It was the first time that we organized a birthday party ourselves; the previous years’ was held at McD and KFC which were really nice though because they had dancing mascots and game manager etc. I am not really good at hosting parties but since we got some space in this not-so-new house, we thought why not celebrate his birthday at home?
Party time!
When Miki asked for a Spongebob cake, we knew the theme was going to be Spongebob or pirates or something… In the beginning I told Azman that we were gonna keep the guest list very short. But knowing me, Azman was skeptical about it and I guess he was right. Although I tried to keep the party as small as possible, at the end I still end up with so many guests. I cant help it!!! I love all you people!! Thanks to all who came!
But I am also very sorry for those who weren’t invited. It was Miki’s party so I invited all his friends and not mine. I am sure you guys would understand.
Anyway back to the party, once we started shopping for party supplies and stuff, “keeping it minimal” can be pretty hard to do! I ended up getting a square Spongebob cake AND Spongebob & Patrick cupcakes because they were too cute! To match up with the theme, menu of the party just got to be burgers of cause! Coz what Spongebob does best is flipping Krabby Patties and serving them at his workplace the Krusty Krab!
Cupcakes with Spongebob and Patrick…
The cake! Yay!
So I prepared Krabby Patties (burger Ramly! Haha), French fries, chicken nuggets, peanut butter sandwiches and some spaghetti too although there’s no pasta in the Galley Grub. We had some mini Mandarin oranges too because we are tough sailors, we need vitamin C for our scurvy. Then Su came with a jar of super delicious whoopie pies and Kak Cik, my s.i.l brought so much bread puddings that’s very rich and yummy. Thanks ladies!
For the drinks I only made one type – ice cold pineapple juice served with canned pineapple but the slices weren’t visible in my water container. Haisshhh… I printed cute food labels with characters of Spongebob Squarepants on them just to make the menu more interesting. Named them Krabby Oyster Bolognese, Krabby Nuggets, Krabby Fries, Seanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich, Seaberries & Pineapple juice etc.. They are pretty cute but dammit I dont any nice pics of the food and the buffet table. sighh…
For decorations, I taped pink paper strips on pink balloons to make jellyfishes but some friends thought I was making something else! YOU PERVERT! LoL
Other colorful balloons were hanged outside on the patio and some just thrown scattered on the floor. To bring the aura of Bikini Bottom inside we bought 20 assorted Spongebob Squarepants posters that are really cool and hang them around the house.
Jelly fish berterbangan la kononnya ni.. hahaha
Sounds like a whole lot but it was nothing really! We had ideas of making a replica of Krusty Krab’s cashier counter, Jellyfish Fields signboard to be erected in our garden, signboard on the driveway etc but I am sorry Miki has a working mom (and dad). We didn’t have enough time for more elaborate deco.
But we did have so much fun with the costumes! We searched high and low for Spongebob/ Patrick tshirt but of course these things can never be found when we need them the most. I guess it was just a test to my creativity, at the last minute we decided to become pirates! Arrrr! It was very cincai kinda wardrobe selection, found a pirates skull bandana for Miki, I stitched some rough ruffles on his white shirt and put on his pinstrip vest inside out.
Azman made him an eye patch and a pirates hat too but Miki wore it only for a short time. I made him a red sash too but the coolest accessory apart from my faux pearl necklace is the pirates sword that Azman made for him with plastic.
The birthday boy buat aksi nyangkung…
Miki is 3!
The laughing pirates!
To become pirates ourselves, both Azman and I wore one hoop earring, ruffled shirt (I already have one in the wardrobe but had to make another for Azman), wore red bandanas and costume jewelleries.
Semangat tak kitorang? Hahaha! It was fun!! It was soooo much fun!
I will write more about the activities and also the costumes our friends wore which was super cool; in the next entry… Stay tuned! :p
