Siri Bergaduh dengan Miki – Quarreling with a two year old

It was 8.30 in the morning and I was still at home. I was all ready for work, my handbag and my notebook bag has been kept in the car, the engine was running and I was supposed to be running too! I was so late for work.

And there was Miki, tousled hair and puffy eyed, just awoken from sleep and straight away watching tv. UmiZoomi was on Playhouse Disney and it was one of his favorite shows.

I said in Malay sternly, “Hurry up Miki, Mummy needs to go to work! Get up now and get into the car! Get up! Get up!”

He replied, “Alaaaaa….” without even looking at me.

“Get up now Miki, now! now! now!”

“Dah lama dah Miki tak tengok UmiZoomi ni Mummy… Dah lama tak tengok! Mummy duduk la Mummy! Duduk la… Dudukla….”

That morning was the first time I hear him use “dah lama dah” or “it has been a long time”. Miki is 2 years 6 months old. I am always late for work.

Last weekend was spent with Miki’s grandparents. On Sunday, the weather was sunny and nice. From his Opah’s garden Miki saw the Mini Market across the road. He begged for ice-cream.

Off we went to get some and on top of the small ice-cream cup for Miki we bought a tub of Nestle Trio Ice-Cream for everyone to share.

While we were crossing the road back to the house, Atuk drove pass us. He smiled and waved at Miki but the little boy was broken hearted. He said,

“Apa Atuk ni…. Miki beli ice-cream nak makan dengan Atuk… Atuk naik car pulak… Apa Atuk ni? Ngada-ngada sangat Atuk ni….”

His Daddy replied, ” Takpe lah Miki nanti Atuk balik boleh makan ice-cream, ok?” but neither did he or myself wasn’t too smitten by the heart warming generosity of our lil boy wanting to share his treats with the old man he meets 5  times a year.

Miki has his way of driving me up the wall. By asking questions. He has been doing this for the past several months and at times he caught me up so good I don’t know what to answer.

Everytime I scold him for doing something naughty, he would question my instruction and ask for justifications or alternatives for the misbehave that I forbid him from doing.

Mummy – “MIKI JANGAN GIGIT REMOTE!!!”
Miki – “Alaa…. abih tu Miki nak gigit apa?? Haa… Takde apa-apa pun Miki nak gigit!!”

Eh eh.. perlukah ko menggigit sesuatu? Ko diam je tutup mulut tu tak boleh?!!

b) Mummy – “MIKI JANGAN JILAT SUSU TUMPAH ATAS MEJA, KOTOR!!”
Miki –  “Haaa??? Abih tu Miki nak jilat apa??” sambil buat muka frust giler dan teraniaya sebab kena deny privileged of menjilat meja.

*pengsan*

It’s always, Abih tu Miki nak koyak apa? Abih tu Miki nak tumpahkan apa? Abih tu Miki nak pukul siapa? Korang bayangkan sendiri la situasinya…

Mummy loves you Miki. You are very smart but please don’t argue so much with me. Especially when you still peepee in a diaper. You don’t wanna be held responsible for my grey hair ok?
