Cekodok Broccoli and Ice Lemon Tea

I cooked last night. Gimme a big round applause. Pat my shoulder. Come on I know you are proud of me! I made cekodok. AND MIKI’S PORRIDGE! That is TWO dishes, mind you! Three if you include ketchup that I pour down from the bottle. But I have never felt so innovative. And clever.

Because ladies and gentlemen, my cekodok is no ordinary cekodok… They are cekodok WITH NUTRIENTS! Tadaaa… Presenting…. My CEKODOK BROCCOLI!!!

I am now Diyana the Cekodok Genius. (muka berlagak)

cekodok brocolli

I told you there are broccoli in there

I was going through the stuff in my fridge yesterday and boy oh boy it was a jungle in there! I found a broccoli head too and if we didn’t eat it soon it was gonna turn yellow. So I figured why not make some cekodok with that. I whipped up the batter, add some salt and turmeric for color, then mixed with soaked anchovies, finely sliced shallots and my key ingredient – bite-size broccoli florets. Onions should work better than shallots but they were extinct from my domestic jungle. Pffft!
Turned out nice anyway, the fritters were crunchy, the anchovies was chewy, the shallots tangy and the broccoli, well… broccolish. Anti-oxidant stuff there, people and make can you look younger.. ( ya right!) Dip with some kechup and because Azman had asked for more, I am OFFICIALLY Diyana the CEKODOK SUPER GENIUS! (do the hot dog dance)

I served them with super tall glasses of ice lemon tea. Using freshly squeezed lemon (that was almost forgotten in the bottom compartment part in my fridge jungle). Surprisingly refreshing!

While I was frying the fritters, I thought of blogging about my new cekodok and wondered what would westerners, Americans especially thought of a recipe that was basically ANCHOVIES, ONIONS, BROCCOLI dump in flour and fried in vegetable fat. I bet they would suggest me add Durian in that madness as well. Oh well, Malaysian food is THE BEST!

Happy cooking everyone!
