Tips on Ceiling Fans

The invention of air conditioner for home has changed the usage of ceiling fans. From merely reducing the temperature to as one of your house decoration. So, it’s always a good idea to install ceiling fans in your home. Furthermore, advances in ceiling fans technology over the past 10 years have expanded their money saving benefits by almost 40% compared with air conditioner.
Below are the benefits of ceiling fans that I can think of,

1. Reduced Electricity Bills – Ceiling fans are certainly lighter on the pocket than using air-conditioners.
2. Space-Saving – Instead of having to allocate floor or wall space for air-conditioners or electric box fans, why not take advantage of seldom-used ceilings by having ceiling fans installed? With ceiling fans, you get to have more space to use for other furniture in the room.
3. Practically Beautiful – While no one can certainly dispute the usefulness of ceiling fans, an equally significant benefit of using ceiling fans is how its appearance can add charm to any room. No matter where you have ceiling fans installed, it will always serve to enhance and never detract a room’s overall look.
Some beautiful design that really captured my eyes was from Casablanca & Hunters. Both have superior quality and very good design. Casablanca ceiling fans gives more classical looks and Hunter ceiling fans more on modern design.

There’re so many types and styles of ceiling fans in the market to choose from. So, it may be a bit difficult to find the best that suit your room or house. Here are some helpful tips;

1. When choosing a fan, please measure your room size first because you should chose a fan according to the size of the room to get maximum cooling effect. For example; A 29in fan is good for a room up to 50 square feet; a 36in fan for rooms up to 75 square feet; 42in fan for rooms up to 100 square feet; and 50in to 54in fans will work best in rooms up to 400 square feet.

2. Ceiling fans come in a range of prices. But please beware for the cheaper one. Its may look great, but over time they are more likely to warp, become off-balance and wear out.

3. For maximum efficiency and safety, place the ceiling fan in the middle of the room and at least 8 feet above the floor. For best results, place the fan 9 or 10 feet above the floor.. Most ceiling fans are about 12″ from the ceiling to the tops of the blades. Hugger fans, which have blades very close to the ceiling, are less efficient at moving air, but may be necessary if you lack the required height clearance.

4. Fan blade brackets should hold the blades at a 12-15 degree angle for optimal circulation. The greater the angle, the more air circulation you get. Fans with less than a 12-degree angle are less efficient.

5. Blades are available in plastic, metal, acrylic, faux wood, cloth, palm, and many types of wood. Blades should be sealed and treated to resist humidity, which can cause them to warp and make your fan wobble.

6. Ceiling fans can weigh as much as 80kg, so most ceilings need to be braced to support the additional weight. Ceiling fans need additional support from above and need to be anchored solidly to a ceiling joist. But if the joist is not located in the center of the room where the fan is to mounted, a special ceiling fan mounting bracket with spiked ends should be installed between joists. A licensed electrician will be able to install the fan securely and take care of the wiring.

Ceiling fans are always a great touch to add for any home. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to beautify your home for such a low price!
