Driving Along Mojave Desert to Las Vegas, the Sin City – USA Vacation Day 5

driving LA to Vegas

Story continued from USA VACATION DAY 4.

The next morning after the exciting, activity packed 4th day of our vacation. We received a love letter. It was from Officer Haywood, a traffic policeman. Hahaha! Azman kena saman parking lah! That’s US$93 and about RM310 for parking at Winona Blvd, at the side of Hollywood Inn where we were staying.  It was all the Inn’s fault, haha! They didn’t provide enough parking space. And since we came back late last night, we didn’t think the cops would still be around. But in the end, we kena saman at 1.46am. Hahaha!

day5-01

What we have in store today was another great journey to Las Vegas. I however, wasn’t ready yet. I need to visit ROSS  (I write about shopping at ROSS store in here) one more time. So we walked there, and I bought a few more stuff including this fantastic pair of shoes for Miki by Ed Hardy. In KLCC, I saw similar pair at Parkson that costs RM379!

You would not believe how much I spent on Miki’s. US$4.99. Four nine nine. Empat sembilan sembilan. That’s Rm16.50.

SIXTEEN FIFTY!!! I WIN! I WIN!!! I AM THE MOST AMAZING MOM IN THE WORLDDDDDDDDDDD…………………..

No seriously, in Malaysia, Rm16.50 memang boleh dapat kasut, tapi bukan Ed Hardy, cuma ASADI. Boleh juga kasut ASADI, tapi pakai gi jamban lah.

Ed Hardy IS a high end brand and it was not THAT cheap in US. If you go to the boutiques it was still expensive but like I said, I am so amazing I got that pair on super stupendous discount. Dia punya happy fuuh! Lain macam! haha *senyum sampai telinga

And then we were all set to go…

Route from Hollywood to Las Vegas

The journey is 322 miles or about 520km and it should take us 5 hours to reach Las Vegas from Hollywood Boulevard. We drove out of the city and took US-101 N/Hollywood Fwy. We passed Sacramento and Barstow… Along the way we saw the endless Mojave Desert.

It was beautiful! This was my first time in a desert and it was a cold desert not scorching hot like our brain always associate deserts with. Well it was chilly perhaps because it was spring but I was still very mesmerized and really thankful for the experience to be there. The view was really gorgeous.

I am no photographer so you just have to make do with these pics. You need to go there and see the real thing. Because it was spring time, we saw these plants on the sand. If we came later of the year, these shrubs would be dry and rolling on the ground, blown by the wind.

Talking about the wind it was indeed blowing hard. We were driving in an SUV and still our Toyota RAV4 swayed in the wind. So I told Azman ot to drive so fast as we weren’t used to this kind of environment.

Funny how we didn’t notice the wind from inside the car because these desert plant were so tough they don’t sway like a palm tree would. They just stood still.

Me in the middle of the desert. It was sejuk but the shine was bright, could barely open my eyes. My skin was really getting burned but I didn’t realized it as the temperature was low.

ghost town

On the way to Las Vegas we saw signboards to Ghost Town and  Death Valley and we thought it sounded cool although we didn’t know what can be found there. We took this exit to go to Baker.

death valley
It was indeed pretty dead. Many of these little town scattered along the way to Vegas. It looked very lonely and spooky. Just a few building along a straight road in the middle of the desert. Amazing.

The quick stop at Baker and then we kept on going. Saw this funny road – Zzyzx Rd. How do you pronounce that?

welcome to nevada
And then we were greeted by this sign – WELCOME TO NEVADA. Yeah, from California, we are now in the state of Nevada, second state we visit in the US, the 9th country to visit for Miki and Rafa.

Yeah!! Give it up for my little travelers! Woohoo!

You would not believe what we saw the first thing we saw once we entered the county – PRIMM VALLEY, Fashion Outlet of Las Vegas. More shopping for me? I didn’t mind at all….

My handsome boys in the strong wind and bright sun of the desert.

At the Fashion Valley, we had a nice meal of vegetarian pizzas, mac and cheese etc. Thank god for vegetarian food else it was gonna be hard for us to find food.

We arrived in Vegas at 7pm. We checked in the hotel and laer went out to check out the place. Too many thing to write and pics to publish, I’ll do that later.

But the next day itself, we started our journey again back to California.
