My in laws came to visit last Friday. All of us was resting in the living room having tea and homemade kuih-muih that my mom in law – mil brought from home. They were all smitten with Miki so the spoilt little boy got to be hold all day long especially by his grandmother.
Excited with all the attention that he was receiving; Miki was all giggly, wide eyed and salivating down to his chin. I mean, that’s just Miki, he would get excited staring at his musical crib toy, at the cartoons playing on TV, at people who make silly faces at him… excited almost at everything that moves and plays music.
And the reason Miki salivates is because SOMEONE didn’t get his Mummy the thing she craved when she was preggie! Not because he actually wants something to eat!
But nope I guess my mil didn’t know the part about the watch, she thought Miki wanted to have a taste of the food that she was having!
And oh didn’t her hand moved so fast?! She was going…
“ Alaa, sayang..sayang…”
and half a nanosecond later she POPPED A CHUNK OF KUIH APAM INTO MY BABY’S MOUTH!!
KUIH APAM!! I jolted with shocked spasm, the ventricles in my heart detonated, I somersaulted, hit my head on ceiling and I died on the spot.
When I came back to life, I remember saying
“Heeeeeiiii! Why did you do that??! Why did you feed him??”
I remember what I blurted was nothing obscene but my tone was definitely high. Oops I think I raised my theater-performing-voice to my mil!
And oops I think I am absolutely super duper angry!
Kuih apam?? Why kuih apam?? Why not Big Apple Donuts or sushi or durian? WHY FEED DIYANA’S BABY WITH SOLID FOOD? WHY? HE IS JUST THREE MONTHS OLD!
The brain inside my head was bubbling and vaporizing and if she was just an inch away from being Azman’s mom, it would have exploded through my ears. It has been so long since I felt such anger! My son is an infant, he may look like he is 6 months old but he is indeed three! No three-month-old eats solid. His system can’t digest anything but milk what makes she thinks he can digest that freaking KUIH APAM?? Miki spitted out the chunk luckily, ELSE HE COULD HAVE CHOKED, COULDN’T HE? And that KUIH APAM, we don’t even know where it has been!
Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, please DO NOT attempt murder on me this way. If you want to kill me, just make Toi the champion of Akademi Fantasia but please do not harm my child. Yes I know Miki is unharmed in the incident but now historically it is not me – Miki’s mother, the one that suffered an e.p.i.s.i.o.t.o.m.y over him, that officially feeds him his first solid food. And to think that my son’s first solid food is non other than KUIH APAM, I declare now that as a mother I am a complete failure.
Baiklah, saya ingin pergi menghentuk kepala ke dinding sekarang. Nanti saya akan tulis lagi…
hak hak hak….dia terlupa kot miki baru 3 bulan…….tapi rasanya apam itu tidak sesedap cupcake ku…

So..takpa..biaq Miki minum susu hang banyak2..pastu poo poo..pastu semuanya selesai..InsyaAllah.
haa… nape la orang2 tua ni tak sabar2 nak bagi anak kita makan aa? nak sumbat semua…

my son’s first solid food when he was not even 2mo was NASIK LEMAK okekkk….fed by my SIL. i was there masa kejadian, tapi like u semua berjalan begitu pantas.. tak sempat nak *haipp!!yahyah!!*
nasib baik nothing happened to dear miki.. kalo dia sakit perut nanti sape yg susah?? bykkan bersabar..in laws are always like dat 😉

Nasi Lemak???? ~pengsan~ ha… elok la tu..sorang nasi lemak sorang kuih apam. Kuih is made of flour and nasik lemak is known for its high fat content – extremely susah nak digest… how old is your sil? i blame it on the age factor…

adehh sakit perut gelak. you mmg drama di. tahap tepu. anyway i understand your situation. mau tercekik miki tu kan. when lisa was about 3 months, my mom. baca eh. MY MOM tak sabar nak suapkan nestum which of course i didnt agree. sampai i bawak dia pegi jumpa ped bagi dia dengar explanation on how infant should not be fed solid food until they are 5 months. its not good for the baby’s kidney. kalau 6 months lagi better. but of course mom could not wait. as soon as she’s 5 months old, dia dah siap sedia tin nestum!
kesian miki, anyways diyana…..sabar je k. my mom pun jenis suka sumbat anak sedara i sampai buncit…..the only question that she will always ask to my sis in law …is ‘tadi budak ni dah makan ke belum’ :)…

When my son was 5 months old, my MIL fed him nasi goreng, she chewed the food and pop into his mouth! The Human Food Processor!!! I too was not planning to give him solids til he turns 6 months old…ah but then??? *SIGH*

Infant below 10months old tak bole bagi makanan yg contains sugar or salt. Sugar can cause a tooth decay later, salt pulak boleh rosakkan buah pinggang.

i’ve heard this kind of story banyak sangat. moms/mil/sil all have this weird urge to feed other ppl’s kids. and it makes me wonder… masa umur kite berapa bulan dah kena suap dengan nasi lemak/apam/cheesecake? hmmm…

I was looking for kuih apam recipe…and ur blog came up. Lucu lah baca cerita u…complete dengan melodrama. Just to share, my baby daughter had an abundance of saliva to share and she’d drool all over the place. And a “kind” neighbour told my mom that the cure was to feed the baby kuih apam! So nak tanya nih…ur baby stopped drooling tak lepas disuap kuih tu? Mungkin ur MIL dah plan kut?…hehehehe
I pun cari recipe kuih apam jugak, tapi ter stop kat sini… nak share cite sikit.. my mum pun macam tu jugak, klu boleh macam2 nak bagi makan. But i terfikir jugak, masa i kecik2 (baby) dulu my mum do the same thing ke.. ? may be we can ask them to share story with us. tak kesah la my mum or my mother-in-law, mungkin mereka ada cerita menarik time kita kecik2(baby)… hemmm i know, my mum know me much better… i still sihat..ahamduliallah… i love u mum..
